Smoke is the one effect that works in daylight, which is why it has become the standard for gender reveals, engagement shoots and wedding photography. No waiting for dark, no bangs, and the results photograph beautifully.

We carry a full colour range plus dedicated blue and pink pairs for reveals. If you are shooting a reveal, buy more than you think you need — smoke goes quickly and there is no second take.

Two practical points. Check the wind before you light anything: smoke goes exactly where the wind takes it, so put your photographer and your guests upwind. And coloured smoke stains — keep it off render, decking, patios and anything white you care about.

Set them on the ground rather than holding them unless the product is specifically made to be handheld.
