Fireworks in Aberdeen

We are a firework shop in Glasgow that delivers to Aberdeen and across the north east. You are a fair distance from us, so this page is mostly about the two things that actually matter at that range: getting them to you on time, and what you are allowed to do once they arrive.

Allow 5 to 7 days

Fireworks are hazardous goods. They do not travel by normal parcel post — they go with specialist couriers licensed to carry explosives, on their own schedules. Our usual window is 5 to 7 days, and delivery is charged rather than free, because it is a licensed explosives carrier rather than a standard parcel service. Put your postcode in at the checkout and the exact position comes up before you pay.

The one time that window stretches is the run-up to Bonfire Night. Everybody in Scotland wants their fireworks in the same fortnight, and the courier slots go. If you want them for the fifth, count back further than a week and order with room to spare. Leave it late and we may be able to sell you the fireworks but not land them in Aberdeen in time, which helps nobody.

If you are travelling through Glasgow anyway, collection from the shop is free and there is no cut-off to worry about.

What the law says up there

Same rules as the rest of Scotland, and they are tighter than England's. Fireworks can be set off between 6pm and 11pm only. The exceptions are 5 November, when you have until midnight, and Hogmanay, Chinese New Year and Diwali, when you have until 1am. The maximum penalty for getting it wrong is a £5,000 fine, six months in prison, or both.

You need to be over 18 for anything beyond category F1, and ID is required on delivery — the driver will ask, so make sure whoever is in has it to hand.

Control zones

Some Scottish councils designate Firework Control Zones, where setting off a firework is a criminal offence anywhere in the zone, gardens included. Glasgow and Edinburgh both have them. Aberdeen City Council operates a process for communities to request one, and at the time of writing we are not aware of any designated across the city — but this is decided locally and reviewed every year, so check before you buy: Aberdeen City Council — Firework control zones. If you are in Aberdeenshire rather than the city, check with Aberdeenshire Council instead.

Choosing at a distance

Not being able to walk in and see the boxes is the real disadvantage of ordering from 150 miles away, so use the video. We fire and film the big pieces ourselves at our test site and put the footage on the product page — no edits and no speed-ups, so you can judge the height and the spread before you commit.

The number to check is the safety distance on the box, 8, 15 or 25 metres. That decides what your garden can take far more than the shot count does. If you are not sure, ring us and describe the space.
